Athini Nyatela
For the past seven years, Athini has gained experience in community development, youth development and advocacy program management. These programs have provided her the opportunity to work with youth, government officials, doctors and pharmacists within the HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) sector. Beyond that, she has facilitated trainings and conducted community workshops with multi continental groups of young adults, such as AfriYan, as well as, national groups of university students and youth not in education, employment or training with youth organisations in both rural and urban south Africa.
She was also instrumental in the coordination of the HIV self-testing program in SA through a PSI funded project, STAR, for three years. This led to the distribution of over 2 million HIV self-tests in SA and the creation of distribution models such as a community based, facility based, pharmacy based and online based models to count a few.
Athini is currently a Project Coordinator at Ezintsha and has been integral in the data collection for the formation phase of the iHEARTS-SA project. Her role includes, but is not limited to, protocol analysis, data collection tool analysis, data collection, transcription and translation of research interviews.
